Taking applied innovation to higher heights
Lifecycle optimization for aerospace
The aerospace industry recognizes it needs to become more sustainable and accelerate its adoption of a circular economy. In response to this, Capgemini and our partner, AWS, have developed a groundbreaking applied innovation solution for optimizing the lifecycle of an aircraft.
‘Lifecycle Optimization for Aerospace’ is designed to help aerospace organizations understand and extend the lifecycle of aircraft and their components. The project began as an idea from the Aerospace & Defense unit and was brought to life through a proof of value (POV) by the AIE Bordeaux team as part of an internal challenge called ‘Innovation4All’.
Shaping the future of aviation
Using AI, machine learning and optical character recognition technologies, our solution automates the aircraft inspection process. It also secures the collection of historic aircraft documentation, enabling the potential re-use of aircraft parts in the global aerospace ecosystem, and helping to create a more sustainable aviation industry.
Aerospace industry leaders have been early adopters of problem-solving innovation solutions. This solution demonstrates Capgemini’s commitment to helping our clients achieve their sustainability goals through transformational innovation and technology – and how bold and ambitious projects like this will help shape the future of the aviation industry.
Highlights
- The applied innovation solution was launched at the prestigious International Paris Air show and also showcased during AWS re:Invent.
- Aerospace parts that were previously dismantled without analysis can now be reused within a circular aviation economy.
- The solution leveraged Capgemini’s innovation ecosystem of leading technology partners having been developed in partnership with AWS.
- Innovation4all is an internal challenge to develop client-centric innovation strategies, ideas and use cases.
“The technologies tested in the platform are very promising and should allow us to increase even further the reuse ratio.”
